Eating is fun and many of us are loving and dedicated to delicious foods whether it is local or some overseas recipe you get from the internet. While we do enjoy delicious foods, not all of us are willing to make them from the scratch. It is understandable however because we can get very busy or just don’t have the time to do grocery shopping, let alone crafting the recipe from the first step. However, learning how to cook is good to be sure what we are putting on our body.

About Cuisinart GR-4N and GR-5B
Grilled food is indeed tasty, moreover if we understand how long to cook, proper seasoning and other related skills. However, grills are mostly big enough so we have to own at least a small backyard or open space at our house to operate them. Cuisinart understand this demand and releasing many different indoor grill models for those who want to cook their fish, meat or seat their sandwich right in their kitchen without needing much preparation. Two of their favorite grills are the GR-4N and GR-5B model.

Both of them are actually very similar to each other due to the same main capabilities but are also different from the way how they are operating. They are tabletop grill and Panini press in a small cooking appliance which consist of contact grill, Panini press, full grill, full griddle and half grill or griddle that you can choose as needed. Another reason why they are easy to use is because these two are electric powered for cleaner and safer cooking.

Cuisinart GR-4N and GR-5B Design
As you can see from the sample picture above, Cuisinart GR-4N and GR-5B are very similar yet different to each other. In general they are coming with two plates just like any waffle maker but instead of the waffle grill, they have a regular grill. They are also featured with the same type of grill and griddle with the same size measured about 9.5 inches by 11.25 inches overall. They only have one plate for each side so we need to flip it over.

Cuisinart GR-4N and GR-5B Cooking Mode
The cooking surface is quite wide and we love the fact that they use Teflon or non-stick pan for the coating because it means we don’t have to use oil or butter again except for flavoring. This material is very standard but should last very long when taken care properly while the housing itself is claimed to be made from stainless steel. To grill, use the grated side on the pan and to griddle like cooking eggs or vegetables, flip it over to expose the flat surface.

What we love the most from these grill is they are very versatile because as it has been mentioned above, it can be used as contact grill, full grill, full griddle, half grill and half griddle as well as Panini press. You may wonder how the two sides come together when making a thick sandwich because they seem to be very flat. While it is not shown in the picture, the top part actually dislodges to allow thicker food between the cooking surfaces.

Cuisinart GR-4N and GR-5B Operating Method
Up to this part, these Cuisinart GR-4N and GR-5B are practically offering the same capabilities and what makes them different is how the cooking appliance is used. The GR-4N is operated manually with a knob to adjust the cooking mode between grill and griddle as well as the temperature. When looked closely, the grill part is set with a level of heat from warm, low, medium, high, and the hottest sear while the griddle is set with temperature in 50 increment.

To use them, we only need to plug the power cord and pick the cooking mode as well as the preheat level. The grill will beep when the preheat temperature is ready so we can start cooking. The difference is GR-5B has a small display at the front and a knob to operate the whole unit instead on using knobs only. Another thing we love is there is an additional drip tray in these grills to catch the liquid or grease from your food.

This making cleaning up even easier and since the cooking surface is just like our cooking pan, they are friendly with dish soap. What you have to keep in mind is these grills do get hot while cooking so it might be better to touch only the knob or handlebar when taking out the food.

Comparison
Now, let’s compare Cuisinart GR-4N with GR-5B. As you may already know, the difference between both of them is on how the appliance is used because the latter is more modern with an easier control panel. The GR-4N is using 3 knobs to adjust the cooking mode and temperature while the other is done through the display so it only need one control knob.
