If you have to deal with unpleasant smells, allergy-inducing pollutants, or smokes quite often, you may need to equip your home with an air purifier. This device becomes a necessity for allergy sufferers, asthmatics, and smokers. An air purifier is a device designed to remove contaminants and pollutants from the air in the room. By using an air purifier, you can improve the quality of the air in your home, creating a healthier environment for you and your family to live in.
Right now, GermGuardian air purifiers are very popular on the market. These machines are loved by many homeowners because they are slim and space-friendly. You can easily put them in a crowded room. But they are also interesting because they use true HEPA filters and UV to purge air. Still, there are several different models available, and choosing one between them can be confusing at first. In the following article, we are going to take a look at the differences between GermGuardian AC4825 and GermGuardian AC5250PT. Continue reading below!
Design and Dimensions
From the outside, GermGuardian AC4825 and GermGuardian AC5250PT look pretty much identical to each other. If not for the size, it can be difficult to tell the two apart. Both are dominantly black in color, with the top parts colored in metallic silver. On the top side of each model, you can find the control panel which features several function and control buttons. Between the top part and the lower housing, there is a shimmering blue line that looks very elegant. They look modern and contemporary. However, their housings seem to be made from some kind of plastic, so they seem to be not very durable. So, make sure that you place them in a relatively safe space so that they won’t get knocked off accidentally by someone. (Have a look : GermGuardian AC4825 Vs AC5000)
Of course, GermGuardian AC5250PT is bigger and incidentally also heavier than GermGuardian AC4825. GermGuardian AC5250PT measures by 27.2” x 9.5” x 6.1”, and weighs approximately 10.6 lbs. On the other hand, GermGuardian AC4825 is noticeably smaller at 21.5” x 9” x 5.5”. It is also lighter at about 7 lbs. So, from the sizes alone, we can tell that GermGuardian AC4825 is more suitable for a small room. It will fit more easily if you have very limited space available. However, if space limitation is not an issue, GermGuardian AC5250PT would fit just fine. By the way, both models come with 6-ft power cords. That’s pretty long; you will have some flexibility in placing the air purifier without having to be too close to the power outlet. The two models have some different buttons in the control panels, and we are going to elaborate about this in the next section.
As you may have expected, since it comes at a higher price point, GermGuardian AC5250PT is armed with more additional features. Just like GermGuardian AC4825, it has indicator lights that inform you whenever you have to change the filter or the UV-C light bulb. However, in addition, GermGuardian AC5250PT comes with a programmable timer that can be set for up to 8 hours. The timer essentially allows you to control how long the machine will operate until it shuts down automatically. There is no point in letting the air purifier work over the night if the atmosphere is already clean, right? GermGuardian AC4825 does not have the timer.
Furthermore, GermGuardian AC4825 only has 3 speeds. Those should be sufficient for small and medium rooms, but you may need higher speeds for cleaning the air of a particularly large room. GermGuardian AC5250PT fits perfectly in the spectrum, as it comes with 5 speeds. The higher speeds will allow the machine to clean a large room more quickly and effectively.
Of course, both models are three-in-one air purifiers; each of them incorporates three methods to clean the air in your home. The first is the HEPA filtration, which basically filters the air from physical contaminants. The HEPA filter is very fine that it can capture 99.97% airborne allergens. It is very effective for filtering dust, hair and fur, as well as pollens. However, GermGuardian AC5250PT goes one step further than GermGuardian AC4825 by implementing the Pet Pure Treatment as well.
Honestly, AC4825’s system is already powerful enough to clean the air even if you live with several dogs or cats, so AC5250PT’s Pet Pure Treatment will not give a noticeable effect in most cases. The treatment, however, will be useful in more demanding conditions such as in a pet shop, an animal shelter, or if you really love dogs or cats that you have so many of them in your home.
The second and third mechanisms in both models are similar. They both use UV-C light to kill viruses, bacteria, germs, and mold spores. Finally, they use activated carbon to remove chemicals, smells, and odors from the air before it is released back into the room.
The manufacturer says that GermGuardian AC4825 is more suitable for small and medium rooms, whereas GermGuardian AC5250PT is more suitable for medium and large rooms. This is mostly because of the CADR rating. The CADR rating measures the amount of clean air that is delivered over a period of time. GermGuardian AC4825 has a CADR rating of 100+, whereas GermGuardian AC5250PT has a CADR rating of 125+. Because it can filter and produce more air at once, GermGuardian AC5250PT is more suitable for a large room. But you can also choose it for small and medium rooms if you need the additional features. But, if you don’t need the additional features, GermGuardian AC4825 would be sufficient.
